Just call me Suzy Homemaker

Yesterday, I made my first batch of homemade laundry detergent. Call me superwoman! It really didn't take as long as I thought it would and John was home all day so his help was awesome. I now wished I had taken pictures along the way but that would've been too easy! Ha!
We used :

1 bar of Fels-Naptha soap
1 cup of Arm&Hammer Super Washing Soda
1/2 cup Borax

Grate the bar of soap and mix with 4 cups hot water on the stove. Stir continuosly until soap is melted..but don't let it boil or the bubbles will freak you out. Trust me on that one.
Mix the Washing Soda and Borax with 2 1/2 gallons of water and add the melted soap - stir until completely dissolved.
Add another 2 1/2 gallons of water and cover. Let it sit overnight and then stir it again in the morning.
Rinse out an old laundry bottle and fill it halfway with soap and the rest of the way with hot water. Shake and use!
I use 1/4 to 1/2 a cup per load and I have a front loading washer. I just took the first load of clothes out of ther dryer and seriously the stuff is amazing! I can't go as far as using vinegar on my clothes because I love the smell of softener too much, but this hopefully will really cut back on our grocery bill. I was spending at least $17 a trip on a bottle of Tide and it would only last me for about 2 weeks.

Now, if I could only get my booty in gear and start cutting coupons....!!!

2 posts in one day? overachiever...

This post is going to be a little bit scattered. I am just trying to get myself in the habit of blogging :-)

...I am sitting on the couch listening to the boys talk to each other from their beds. I honestly think they don't get that I can hear them! They have been in bed for almost an hour now "going to sleep". This schedule stuff is for the birds!

... Susie Harris is doing a sweet little giveaway tonight. I already entered and here's hoping that I win!

...I didn't get the housecleaning done today like I wanted to but I guess theres always tomorrow! I did fix a roast for dinner which given the current state of lazy I'm in, is a huge thing. I swear this pregnany has zapped all energy from my body.

...Found a great pattern for a Moby Wrap online. Can't wait to try it. I had a sling with Bridge and hated it. Hopefully this one will be awesome.

...I think I'm off to take a shower and try to go to sleep early. I'm betting as soon as I get off the couch someone is going to start crying. A day in the life :-)

27th do-over

I swear this is the 27th blog I've started and hopefully it will be my last. I don't know why it's been so hard for me to jump on the blogging bandwagon! I will be really good with it for about a month and then it just gets shoved on the backburner. Surely it doesn't have anything to do with the fact that I have 4 kids under the age of 5 and am pregnant with the 5th one!
All the kids are down for naps *knock on wood that they will stay asleep for longer than 20 minutes* and I just kinda got the itch to start a blog. I have been horrible about taking pictures of the kids and jotting down the cute things they do so maybe this will help me in that regard.
Plus, I am dying to get off Facebook but just can't seem to hit the delete button quite yet. Hopefully this will be a replacement :-)
Ok..I am off to search some blog carnivals to see if there is anything that I need to link up to so I can be accountable to blog. Here's hoping it works!
